Sowing seed among the thorns
The Word of God is to be preached throughout the world. It is to be sown as a seed that will spring up and bear fruit. Unfortunately, some of that seed falls among the thorns and is choked by them.
Mathew 13; 3-8, And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
The parable isn’t just for the lost who forget God’s Word when they face adversity. It is also for the Christian who allows things of this life to distract us.
A lost person will not turn to the Lord because of the distractions and a Christian will be distracted from what he should be doing.
Christians can face the problem of forgetting God’s Word in our own life if we allow the thorns of this world do distract us.
Each of us has struggles in our lives that can easily distract us. Work and family can sometimes distract us from staying focused on God’s Word and become thorns in our lives.
Today more than ever, we live in a time when evil and immorality is growing worse each day. During these trying times, we need to focus on God’s Word even more than ever.
Christians read the Bible and for a moment are refreshed but when we allow these problems to come back into our minds, we are sowing seed among the thorns.
We need to focus on the Lord’s Word and not allow the things of this life to choke it in our lives. The best way for us to make sure the seed of the Word of God bears fruit in our lives is to draw close to the Lord each day through Bible study and prayer.
