People seek blessing instead of seeking the Savior
There is a large majority of people today who seek blessing from the Lord but aren’t truly interested in following Him. They want the benefits without the responsibility and this has caused many churches to appeal to the natural man to build up their membership numbers.
John 6: 26-27, “Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed
People who never pray or spend time reading their Bible can often be heard praying when trouble comes into their life. The Lord can use these troubles to turn a sinner to repentance and faith. Unfortunately, for a great number of those people, they only seek relief from their immediate problem and resume their sinful lifestyle shortly after.
These individuals try to use the Lord to get help when they want something but they turn their back on Him as soon as they’ve gotten what they want.
1st Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Churches have began using various forms of entertainment to attract people into their congregations instead of using the simple Gospel Message. They appeal to those who only seek blessing and disregard the hard truths that may upset them when they come.
The degrading of teaching the truth of the Gospel and the consequences of living a sinful life has led to a large number of people who simply don’t go to church or who never spend time in Bible study and prayer.
Any church that focuses on the dangers and consequences of sinful living usually doesn’t have a large congregation. People get offended when the preacher points out that person’s favorite sin which ends up hurting the offering. The criminal doesn’t like to be told they’re committing a crime.
By contrast, the churches that preach on ways you can be successful in life and feel good about yourself have large auditoriums of people who want to hear the next inspiring message from the man in the pulpit.
