They desired a king and rejected God

All across the country we see people who have rejected God and desire for government to intervene in various aspects of their every day life. More people refuse to accept any personal responsibility for their own actions and life. They demand government force someone else to provide for them and remove the burden of responsibility for bad decisions.

When we study the Old Testament we see the same type of thing happen in ancient Israel. The people demanded a king so they could be like the other nations around them.

1st Samuel 8: 7, “And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.”

Samuel warned the people about the burden a king would be. I encourage everyone to read the remaining verses in the chapter and see how many of those things we see happen in our world today.

People will reject God because their ways are evil. They would rather live in their lusts than repent and turn to the Lord. There is an inward change in the person who turns to Jesus Christ in faith and repentance but many would rather live in the temporary pleasures of sin.

The majority of people in our nation have rejected God and desire the king of government to be their master. Instead of praying to the Lord during hard times, they are crying to government to provide for them. They also want the government to carry the burdens of their bad life’s choices.

Government takes from the working person and gives to the lazy. The more lazy people there are, the more the people are taxed to care for them. Politicians use their office to enrich themselves, just as kings in ancient Israel did and the people are burdened with the costs.

The first responsibility of government is to protect the people from harm. But when the people reject God, many want no responsibility for the harm they cause others. The more evil people become, the more they pressure government to remove the laws that are to protect the innocent.

Criminals are set at liberty while the law abiding are made criminals if they fight back against those who would do them harm. Each of these things are seen in our world today just as they were in ancient Israel.

When we study the Bible we clearly see the consequences of sin. We also learn of God’s judgement to come of this wicket world. People demand the king of government and rejected God in their lives, but no government can stop the Judgement of God that is to come.
