Christians have a moral responsibility to stand for truth

The truth is hated today because it is often offensive to people Christians have a moral responsibility to stand for truth regardless of who may be offended. We have a responsibility to stand for God and His Word in this fallen world.

Jeremiah 6: 10, “To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.”

Before we can stand for the truth, we must learn the truth for ourselves. If we blindly believe a lie instead of seeking the truth we are ignoring our responsibility to God as well as everyone around us.

Hatred of the truth

By nature, we are sinners and in direct rebellion against God. When we are called out for the sins we commit we become angry because of our rebellious nature. We develop an idea that whatever we do is right no matter what the truth really is.

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12, And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The Pharisees became the most furious with the Lord Jesus during His earthly ministry when He would point out their hypocrisy. They wanted power and blindly ignored their own sins while putting heavy burdens on others.

We also are lazy at times and fail to seek out the truth for ourselves. Instead of looking into God’s Word for ourselves, we simply believe things someone else says. The very reason so many cults exist today is because people refuse to seek out the truth.

There are people who spend their entire lives believing a lie and when confronted by the truth of God’s Word, they don’t want to accept it. They would rather hold on to the lies and feel comfortable than to confront those lies they’ve believed for so long.

People who live a sinful life with no cares about God’s Judgement would rather continue in sin. The child of the devil wants to stay with his father. Satan seeks to steal, kill and destroy and so does his children.

A child of God also wants to stay with his Heavenly Father and see more people turn to the Lord and repent from sin. The child of God has a challenge in today’s growing sinful world.

The world pushes extremes to gain some acceptance

Today’s world pushes sinful living to an extreme. Sinful lifestyles become more common over time as more people accept it. Sinful lifestyles that were once hidden from view are now paraded down the street.

When a Christian who is willing to stand for the truth and call out sin, he is criticized by an ever growing number of people. The world chooses sin over the Savior and will ultimately face destruction and judgement.

The fastest growing churches today are not the ones that stand against sin; the fastest growing churches today are those that are accepting of sin. Those churches appeal to the natural man and his sinful nature.

Instead of warning the sinner of the truth of God’s Word and the coming judgement of this world, these churches appeal to them and bow before the alter of the offering plate.

Is it better to offend the world or offend God?

People want to be accepted by others today and will compromise their views to gain it. It is unfortunate that we often compromise the truth of God’s Word as well.

Acts 5:29, “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

When we compromise God’s Word to keep from offending someone we are offending God instead. We are sent as lambs among the wolves. We need to remember the sacrifice the Lord made for us.

The best way for us to have the courage to stand for God is to draw close to Him by prayer and Bible study.

When we ignore God’s Word to keep ourselves comfortable we are ignoring the sacrifice the Lord made for us. We are to strive daily to be faithful to the Lord and stand for truth in all areas of our lives.
