We are saved by grace through faith alone but the faith that saves is not alone

A person who has a real encounter with Jesus Christ is forever changed. We see this fact throughout the New Testament as countless individuals turned to Him in repentance and faith. The Lord healed many of them physically and healed an even greater number spiritually.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God

The Bible tells us that ALL are sinners and have fallen short of God’s standards, and as any good judge, there must be a penalty for the crime of rebellion against the Lord. We are the criminals that face the Lord’s judgment, but He also offers us grace if we’re willing to turn to him in faith.

Ephesians 2:8–9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast

It is common to hear preachers talk about having faith in Jesus Christ. Today, many people say they believe in the Lord, but the life they live goes against everything He teaches. The faith that saves will produce change in the lives of those who truly turn to the Lord and that is a critical point that the church needs to emphasize more in today’s world.

There are more churches in this country than ever before in its history, but look at how things are. Evil has grown all around us at a rate unimaginable just a few decades ago.

The Apostle James explains the difference between merely believing that the Lord exists and having the type of faith that changes your life. James makes it clear that it is possible to believe the Lord exists but still be His enemy.

James 2:19, Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

When the Lord changes someone’s life, there will be evidence in that person of the change. The Christian can still make a mistake, but instead of living a life of rebellion against the Lord, they will run to their Heavenly Father in repentance. Their daily lives will be different in many ways from what they once were.

James 2:18–20: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Is the Lord knocking on the door to your heart? Open up to Him as you are. Be honest with Him about your life and ask for His help and forgiveness. He loves you and wants you to turn to Him. Talk to Him as you would talk with your best friend, because He IS the best friend you could ever have.
