Follow the Instructions of life by reading the Bible

Have you ever tried to put together a bicycle, a model air plane, a puzzle, or connect a VCR to your television?  Have you ever tried to do those things without reading the instructions?  After reaching your wits end, did you swallow your pride and pick up the instruction book?  Life is no different, and sometimes we need to read life’s instruction book, the Bible.

Proverbs 1: 1-7, “The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;  To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;  To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;  To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:  To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

We always try to live life by our own ideas, and often find ourselves looking at the broken pieces, wondering how we are going to put them back together again.  Instead of turning to the Word of God, many turn the television to Oprah or to some self help program while the answer book is collecting dust on their bookshelf.

The Bible has suffered more ridicule and attacks than any other book written.  Its attacker is the same old serpent that deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden.  He is still asking the same question, Geneses 3: 1 “Hath God said?”

It has suffered attack after attack, but will always remain true because its keeper is the Lord Himself.  Luke 21:33, Jesus said, “Heaven and Earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.”  Those that read the Word of God to find fault with it instead find that the Word of God finds fault with them.

Psalm 19:7-9, “The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.  The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eye.  The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.”

The Bible lights the path that we are walking on.  When we come to a crossroad, it gives us the direction we should go, and warns us of the dangers that we could face if we choose the wrong way.  It is important that each of us take time to read the Bible ourselves.  Not just a verse or two on Sunday morning, but when we are at home, or wherever we might be through the week.

Many say that the Bible is hard to understand.  The Apostle Peter was one who said it, but still encouraged everyone to read the scriptures.  It is important for each of us to remember, a person that has a Bible that is falling apart from everyday use, has a life that isn’t.

Have you read the instruction book for your life?  Please take a moment to read from your Bible asking the Lord to guide you.
